Never had any bother and never left anything other than foot prints, many great places, but one particular place is Papa Stour. The freedom to camp on the most amazing of lightly populated Islands with a regular ferry crossing is simply a dream. The ferry terminal has a waiting room, toilet and water supply, skips for bruck are at the jetty. With the population all to the East side of the Island the places to wild camp are endless. In the past I have also stayed at the Hurdiback Hostel on Papa Stour (tel 01595 873227) http://www.hurdibackhostel.co.uk/index.html and this was a welcomed warm and dry stop. It is now under new ownership and sounds even better than before.

The official camp site on Fetler, The Garths Campsite Gord, Fetlar, Shetland Islands, ZE2 9DJ, Scotland Phone: 01957 733227 is first class, good outlook bit of shelter for backpackers, kitchen, wash room and toilets everything worked Clickimin Clickimin Leisure Complex, Lochside, LERWICK, Shetland, ZE1 0PJ, Tel: (01595) 741000 in Lerwick excellent for being close to public transport, shops and everything. I have stayed there both as a backpacker and with a caravan, never been disappointed, good value for money Lastly is Braewick , Eshaness, Shetland, ZE2 9RS, Phone 01806 503345 this site is simply superb for cost, service and location. Great cafe with real food, all facilities are first class and the view is simply amazing. Many walks from the site with the Dore Holm and Esha Ness being a good day out on foot. Not to be missed

It was end of season and both Shell Bay and Crail charged full price of £14 and £18 per night for a one man tent. Shell Bay had a club and cafe but it was closed, excuse being mid week end of season, so no hot meal there nor a reduction on the pitch nor info prior to pitching! Only plus point was good showers . Crail was a good camp site but £18 per night for a one man tent and backpacking was way out of order, I will sleep in field next time and wash in a burn or not at all! So even though the site was clean etc it was thumbs down for cost and in my opinion, better avoided when back packing.
